June 18, 2024— The HKPR District Health Unit is informing the City of Kawartha Lakes and Northumberland County that aSpecial Air Quality Statement has been issued by Environment Canada as the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) will reach a level of 7, indicating high air pollution levels due to hot and sunny conditions.
June 17, 2024 – As we move into warmer weather, the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge (HKPR) District Health Unit is sharing reminders of the significant health risks people can experience during extreme heat conditions, and how individuals and families can best prepare and stay protected this summer.

June 12, 2024 - The HKPR District Health Unit is issuing an alert due to a notable increase in suspected opioid drug poisonings in Northumberland County. There is also a trending increase of drug poisonings in the City of Kawartha Lakes and County of Haliburton.
June 10, 2024 – The HKPR District Health Unit has been notified of increased pertussis (whooping cough) activity within the school community. Parents and caregivers should be vigilant, as it is possible that children may have been exposed to this highly contagious bacterial respiratory infection.
June 3, 2024 – The HKPR District Health Unit would like to inform the community that regular updates to the Respiratory Infection Dashboard, which reports local cases, hospitalizations, outbreaks, and other indicators of influenza and COVID-19, will now take a pause until the fall.
