    February 4, 2025 – Today, the Board of Health for the Haliburton Kawartha Northumberland Peterborough (HKNP) Health Unit (formerly Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit and Peterborough Public Health) announces Dr. Thomas Piggott as the area’s new Acting Medical Officer of Health (MOH) and Chief Executive Officer, subject to the Minister of Health’s approval, effective immediately.

  • Extreme Cold Warning Terminated for the County of Haliburton, City of Kawartha Lakes and Northumberland County

    January 22, 2025 — The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit (HKPR District Health Unit) is advising that the Extreme Cold Warning issued on January 17, 2025 for the County of Haliburton, City of Kawartha Lakes and Northumberland County has been terminated effective today as a result of Environment Canada forecasting temperatures to rise out of the extreme cold level.

  • Avian Influenza Confirmed in Goose: Public Urged to Follow Safety Precautions

    January 21, 2025 – On January 3, 2025, a Canada goose found by the Town of Cobourg By-Law Enforcement team in the Cobourg harbour was submitted for testing and has since been confirmed by the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative (CWHC) to be infected with avian influenza.
