Health Unit Publishes Salary Disclosure Information

PORT HOPE, ON (March 28, 2022) – In compliance with the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act 1996 (PSSDA), the Haliburton, Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit (HKPRDHU) is required to publish the name, position, salary and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year. Salary can include regular wages, overtime, and retroactive payments from prior years.

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries, and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

“I would like to thank our committed and passionate team of healthcare professionals who worked under extremely stressful and ever changing conditions that added longer hours, multi-shift work weeks and significant overtime in an effort to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19,” said Doug Elmslie, Board Chair for the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge, District Health Unit. “Our Health Unit staff support the health of the communities we serve at great intensity and dedication, they powered through the COVID-19 pandemic response, and we thank them for their efforts,” added Elmslie.

The purpose of this law is to provide a more open and accountable system of government. It lets taxpayers compare the performance of an organization with the compensation given to the people running it. It also provides taxpayers with more details on how their tax dollars are spent.

“Each year we continue to provide the required documentation in accordance with the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act to allow taxpayers an open and transparent way in which their tax dollars are spent,” said Angela Vickery, Director of Corporate Services for the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit.

The 2021 salary disclosure details for 27 HKPRDHU employees subject of the Act, as compared with 17 in 2020, and 14 in 2019, who earned salaries and benefits exceeding $100,000, can be now be found online by visiting the Province of Ontario’s 2021 public salary disclosure list.
