Book an Appointment at an Immunization Clinic

Appointments are required, as walk-ins are not currently available. Please only arrive 5 minutes prior to your booked appointment.

Our routine immunization clinics offer vaccines for people of all ages for those without a local Health Care Provider. 

Get your child immunized for all routine vaccines based on Ontario's Publicly-Funded Immunization Schedule, and the seasonal flu shot (children 5 years of age and under) at an upcoming Immunization Clinic.

At 2 and 4 months old, babies should receive the following vaccines:

At 18 months old, babies should receive the following vaccine:

Every fall and spring, the HKPR District Health Unit staff visit elementary schools to immunize Grade 7 students. At these clinics, students are offered the following vaccines:

Meningococcal (meningitis)

  • Vaccine: Nimenrix® or Menactra® 
  • Doses: One
  • Required for school.

Hepatitis B

  • Vaccine: Recombivax® HB or Engerix-B® 
  • Doses: Two (if second dose is not given before the child is 16 years of age, a third dose is needed).
  • Recommended, but not required for school.

Human Papillomavirus (HPV)

  • Vaccine: Gardasil® 9  
  • Doses: Two (if first dose is not given before the child is 15 years of age, then three doses are needed).
  • Recommended, but not required for school.

Consent forms, parent letters and information sheets are sent home with students in early September. The Health Unit will only immunize students whose parent or caregiver has completed the consent form and signed “YES”.

Tips for clinic day

  • eat a good breakfast.
  • bring a lunch.
  • wear a short-sleeved shirt.
  • bring a distraction: music, a book or a game. 
  • know that the needle may feel like a pinch in the upper arm and should only last for a few seconds.

Other Recommended Immunizations:

A tetanus booster (Adacel) should be given to children between 14 to 16 years of age. Please contact your health care provider or the Health Unit to book an appointment.

  • Tetanus booster is recommended every 10 years.
  • Pneumonia and Shingles vaccines are recommended at age 65.
  • Mpox vaccine is available for people at high-risk.

During pregnancy: A whooping cough booster (Adacel) is recommended in each pregnancy given between 27 to 32 weeks gestation.

Please note, travel vaccines are not available at our clinics. Please contact your primary health care provider, local travel clinic or pharmacy.

Additional Services

The Fall 2024 COVID-19 vaccine is expected to be available for high-risk populations in October-November.

The Health Unit will only be providing the COVID-19 vaccine to children 6 months to 5 years of age.

All other individuals are asked to contact their local pharmacy to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Many health care providers and pharmacies provide the flu vaccine. Children two years and older can receive a flu immunization at a local pharmacy. Contact your doctor or primary care provider to book an appointment.

If your child is under the age of five and does not have a Health Care Provider, you can book an appointment with the Health Unit through the Immunization Clinics by calling 1-866-888-4577 x 1507.

1-Step TST 
Involves two visits to the Health Unit. You will come on a Tuesday for the “implant” and return on the Thursday morning to have it “read”.
 

2-Step TST 
Involves four visits to the Health Unit. Please book well in advance, as this process takes more time to complete.
 

This test is FREE for you if:  

  • it is required for school. 
  • your Health Care Provider has said it is medically necessary (e.g., starting a new medication).
  • you have been told you are a contact of someone who has Tuberculosis.
  • you are under 65 years of age and require it for living in a Long-Term Care Home. TSTs are not recommended for people over 65 years of age, please discuss options with your health care provider.

As of January 2024, the Health Unit will no longer provide TSTs for:

  • employment
  • volunteer placement
